  • County Judge Proclaims Adult Literacy Week

Van Buren, Arkansas — September 9, 2024 — In a decision underscoring the critical importance of education for all, County Judge Chris Keith officially proclaimed the week of September 16 to 24, 2024 as Adult Literacy Week in Crawford County, Arkansas. This week-long observance highlights the vital role of adult literacy in fostering personal and professional growth, and to promote continued investment in educational resources and programs.

The proclamation was announced on Monday, September 9, 2024. During the signing, Judge Keith along with Crawford County Adult Education Center Director Dr. Debbie Faubus-Kendrick and Crawford County Volunteers for Literacy Director Jessica Blasingame each emphasized the transformative power of literacy in improving the quality of life for individuals and enhancing community well-being.

Literacy opens doors to new opportunities and empowers individuals to contribute more effectively to our communities. Adult Literacy Week aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by millions of adults who struggle with reading, writing, and basic math skills. It also seeks to celebrate the successes of those who have overcome these challenges and to encourage support for ongoing educational initiatives.
