Our volunteers play a crucial role in the lives of vulnerable children, providing a stable presence in court, ensuring their voices are heard, and simply offering a compassionate ear. Our volunteers advocated for 82 children in 41 cases from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024. Twenty-one were reunited with their families, 13 were adopted, and three aged out of the foster care system. We were honored to present The Bronze President's Volunteer Service Award to two of our volunteers.
Tammi Hargis has dedicated 17 years to volunteering as an advocate, supporting numerous children throughout her tenure. She has managed over 15 cases and advocated for more than 38 children. Tammi is the go-to volunteer when we require a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for a case, consistently stepping in to fill that crucial gap.
Samantha, a CASA advocate for nearly two years, has made a significant impact, taking on five cases and advocating for 16 children during her brief time with us. She is detail-oriented and collaborates effectively with all parties involved. Samantha establishes meaningful connections with the children and works closely with their parents. In one of her recent cases, she provided exceptional support to a mother struggling with substance abuse, encouraging her to seek the help she needed. As a result, this mother successfully reunited with her children, leading to the closure of her case.
No special education or background is required to become a CASA volunteer. CASA will provide you with the training and support to prepare you to advocate for a child in the family court system. We are in need of volunteers at this time. We have children waiting for someone like you to be a voice for them in the courtroom. Visit our website www.casaofcrawfordcounty.org or call 479-474-8502 for more information about becoming a CASA Volunteer.
