The Van Buren Chamber Education and Workforce Committee, in conjunction with the Van Buren School District, will honor Van Buren High School’s most exceptional students at its 2024 Arkansas Scholars Awards Ceremony on April 23rd.
Arkansas Scholars is a prestigious distinction given only to graduates who have achieved a 95% or better attendance record in their four years of high school. The students must also have a "C" or higher average and have completed all the required courses to graduate in four years. Each scholar is presented with a certificate at the ceremony and awarded a medallion at graduation.
The ceremony will take place at the Van Buren Fine Arts Center and will include a special program honoring the graduates.
Career Connection will take place after the ceremony, featuring display tables for employers and universities to share career opportunities with the graduating seniors and their parents or guardians. The hours are from 7 pm until 8 pm.
Sponsorship of this event supports scholarships presented to graduating VBHS students who will be attending University of Arkansas-Fort Smith and Arkansas Tech University - Ozark Campus this fall.
Keynote Speaker
Grant was born on November 17, 1993, to Marla and David Neal of Van Buren, Arkansas; one of four boys. Grant attended Van Buren Public Schools and graduated from Van Buren High School in 2012 with honors, a member of the Van Buren High School Marching Band as well as the Army JROTC. He was able to receive the Army JROTC Certificate of Achievement in 2009, and in 2011 was honored to represent the State of Arkansas at the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security in Washington D.C.Growing up Grant worked at his family’s business Rhodes Chevrolet Company learning the odds and ends of the car business from the ground up. Particularly focusing on service and parts departments. In 2016 Grant moved to Denver, Colorado to work in the car business for the McDonald Automotive Group. Here he worked up to a management position over the course of 3 years, finally achieving a recognition of excellence in service management for his work.
In 2019, Grant moved home to Van Buren to join his father at Rhodes Chevrolet as the General Manager where he still works today. In April of 2022 Grant married Savannah Boster of Alma, and in December of that year their son John William was born.
Grant is a member of the River Valley Referrals group for Business Networking International, a member of the Van Buren Chamber of Commerce, as well as an alumnus of Leadership Crawford County’s Class of 2023 and now sits as a board member for Leadership Crawford County.
