In conjunction with the Cherokee Freedmen exhibit, author and genealogist Angela Walton-Raji will share the history of Black Cherokee people from the time of Indian Removal in the 1830s through their fight for, and ultimately granting of, Cherokee citizenship. Based on hundreds of records and documents, Walton-Raji’s presentation will bring to life the stories of these men and women and their fight for freedom and acceptance by the Cherokee Nation.
